Terrain Construction Positions

Terrain construction positions are an integral part of the development work at TerraSim. These specialists provide the balance to the software team, focusing on product use and application.

At TerraSim, terrain database analysts work on a variety of activities including product testing, documentation and training, customer support, and 3D terrain generation services for TerraSim customers. They also work closely with software engineers to help define processing requirements that streamline product workflow. We value academic training and previous work experience in geographic information systems (GIS), urban planning, and visualization systems for modeling and simulation.

Job 17-GIS -- Junior GIS Analyst

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong background utilizing geospatial data for analysis and visualization. The successful applicant will become an expert in our TerraTools and Source Data Preparation software suites in order to build complex 3D terrain visualizations for defense modeling, simulation, and training applications. As part of the software development process, your duties will also include working with software engineers to design new products, test software, and write documentation. You will also provide customer support and training to our broad customer base.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent academic preparation in GIS, geography, or other related fields (bachelor's degree preferred)
  • Interest and talent in large-scale geo data processing and 3D visualization
  • Experience using GIS, image processing, or LIDAR software (such as ArcGIS, Global Mapper, QGIS, Imagine) for significant source data creation or editing projects
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including technical documentation and oral presentations
  • Strong problem solving skill for use in software testing and customer support activities

Other beneficial experience:

  • Experience and aptitude for scripting languages (such as Tcl, Perl, Python)
  • Independent research or internship
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience in software customer support
  • Experience with software QA
  • Experience with 3D modeling programs

Internships

TerraSim, Inc. is currently accepting applications for 2017 summer interns. We are looking for interns to help us improve the design and functionality of our flagship geospatial database product, TerraTools®, and our array of source data preparation products: MaterialMAP, Building Designer, DEMTools, Xtract, and RoadMAP.

As a small technology company, we can offer you an interesting software development experience while working on cutting edge problems in computer graphics, computer vision, software systems, and visual design. Not only will you be able to develop advanced modeling, simulation, and gaming technologies, but you will also be able to make immediate contributions to software design and implementation. TerraSim offers a relaxed, flexible work environment with competitive hourly rates.

GIS Interns

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong academic background utilizing geospatial data for analysis and visualization. The successful applicant will work with TerraSim database engineers, who provide the balance to the software team and focus on product use and application. You will work with our TerraTools and Souce Data Preparation software suites to give input on software product design, test software, and write documentation. Tasks can range from testing targeted parts of the software to creating and documenting use cases using real-world geospatial data. The following are integral to this position:

  • Excellent academic preparation in GIS, geography, and other related fields.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including writing technical documentation and delivering oral presentations.
  • Experience using ESRI and/or GlobalMapper GIS software for significant projects.
  • Experience and/or aptitude for scripting languages (such a Tcl, Perl, Python).

Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in geography or a related field and must currently have Junior or higher standing.

Software Engineering Interns

Our work environment is open and project-oriented and you will work directly with both junior and senior members of the company. Your internship will be relevant to current and/or next generation TerraSim products or customer support enhancements; previous interns have contributed directly to our released products.

As a result, you will be exposed to a realistic "small company" environment where each person participates in many aspects of feature planning and design, implementation, testing, and documentation. At the end of the internship, you will have a new perspective on commercial software engineering and you will be able to point to your contribution within a commercial product.

Our technology is used to support geospatial visualization for both civil and defense applications. We have a variety of problems for interns to tackle in the areas of computer graphics, systems development, user interfaces, and urban visualization development.

Software engineering interns are expected to have a strong academic background with coursework in computer graphics, computer vision, or software engineering, and some experience in software project development beyond class work.

Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in science or engineering and must currently have Junior or higher standing.
