Job 12-3D Modeler Part Time

TerraSim, Inc. develops TerraTools®, an advanced software solution for 3D geospatial visualization. We focus on providing our customers with innovative products for the rapid creation of complex geospatial visualizations derived from a variety of geo-referenced source data. This data includes geographic information systems (GIS), aerial, satellite, and terrestrial imagery, CAD and architectural models, and high resolution digital elevation models of the earth's surface.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with coursework and practical experience in 3D modeling. At TerraSim, 3D modelers participate in a variety of activities including modeling, graphic design, and software testing and documentation. This individual will learn all aspects of TerraTools in order to develop models and visualization databases.

The successful applicant must have the ability to create interesting and functions 3D models based on multiple photographs or combinations of scale drawings, CAD drawings, video sequences, and photographs. All 3D models are developed for a real-time computer graphics environment, and must be realized with low polygon budgets and multiple levels of detail.

Significant experience and facility with 3ds Max and Adobe Photoshop are required. Exposure to CAD drawing and rendering systems, or Presagis Creator experience is a plus.

As a TerraSim 3D modeler, you will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Create tileable textures in Adobe Photoshop for application to building models
  • Build photorealistic 3D models of urban objects in 3ds Max and TerraTools
  • Create organic low-polygon models, such as rocks, trees, walls, and urban clutter
  • Test models and textures in TerraTools for end-customer use.

In addition, 3D modelers are expected to take part in the following activities:

  • Contribute to the design of corporate marketing materials using Adobe Photoshop
  • Capture on-screen video and edit it for corporate promotional materials
  • Learn and use the Tcl scripting language to manipulate 3D model and texture sets
  • Test TerraTools database generation functionality related to models and textures
  • Create TerraTools projects to test software and develop product tutorials.

This is a part time position, with flexible but regular weekly hours. A minimum commitment to twelve hours per week is required. It is open to students who have completed at least two years of a four year college degree program, or recent graduates who are looking for relevant work experience toward building a professional portfolio.

Proof of US citizenship or permanent resident status is required. Hourly compensation is commensurate with experience.
