Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim, Inc. has been awarded a DARPA Phase I SBIR entitled "Visualization of Information in Support of Asymmetric Operations." This contract will result in the specification of a commercial software product for the rapid production of urban simulation databases from a variety of non-traditional geospatial data sources. These include the interactive use of tourist maps and urban graphics to augment existing GIS source data. Emphasis will also be placed on new technology for generation of subsurface features such as water mains, utility lines, and subways.
"Our goal is to investigate the feasibility of a product where urban databases can be rapidly constructed without resorting to the traditional image-based processes requiring detailed manual modeling of buildings, roads, and other urban features," said Dr. Jefferey Shufelt, principal investigator on the SBIR project. "As with other ongoing R & D at TerraSim, our overarching goal is to provide our customers with effective tools for augmenting their source geospatial data to produce high quality virtual environments, fully integrated with our TerraTools database construction system."
