TerraSim Announces Release of TerraTools® V1.2

April 26, 2000

Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim, Inc. announces the release of TerraTools® Version 1.2. This third major release of TerraTools incorporates important new features and capabilities to further increase the productivity of database and visualization builders.

TerraTools V1.2 features a new Model Library Editor, which supports organizing and editing a hierarchical collection of models. Complementing the Model Library Editor are multiple model placement tools. These include support for a wide variety of model placement styles and methods, including regular grids, random scattering, placement along lines and curves, probabilistic models, and oriented placement with respect to linear features.

A new feature to TerraTools V1.1 was the addition of an Appearance Editor. With the release of V1.2, a revised appearance editor now provides search capabilities for quickly finding a feature, appearance, texture or material component. In addition, it includes tools for appearance file import, feature preview zooming and texture dimension display, as well as editing for DFAD and SEDRIS attribute codes.

In addition to increased speed for many essential processing functions, TerraTools V1.2 has additional output capabilities to support DFAD attribution for OpenFlight versions 14.2 and 15.4. V1.2 also includes support for exporting completed databases to SEDRIS; these SEDRIS transmittals have been validated with the Institute for Defense Analyses's (IDA) SEE-IT diagnostic tools and AcuSoft's Side-By-Side viewer.

Additional tutorials have been added to the documentation including a SEDRIS and an extensive Model Placement tutorial. The tutorials, when combined with the extensive documentation and on-line help system, make learning and using TerraTools V1.2 even easier.

Many of these continuing improvements to TerraTools are being driven by customer requirements. For instance, TerraTools was recently used by the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) in conjunction with the VERTS program to construct a visual simulation of the city of Philadelphia.
