2001 ASPRS: Urban Visualization Linking SOCET SET® and TerraTools®

April 19, 2001

Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim, Inc. and BAE Systems, Mission Solutions, will demonstrate the use of SOCET SET® and TerraTools® for the rapid production of 3D urban visualizations at the 2001 American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Annual Conference.

The San Diego Urban Visualization Project is a joint effort between TerraSim and BAE Systems to demonstrate the range of urban visualizations that can be created by integrating pre-existing GIS geospatial source with spatially intensified DEMs and feature data compiled using SOCET SET®, a fully featured photogrammetric workstation. As a concept demonstration, the San Diego Project covers a 2.25 by 2.25 mile segment of the downtown area, including the Convention Center, Marina Park, and Balboa Park.

Starting with a variety of geospatial source data including aerial and IKONOS imagery, San Diego GIS (SanGIS) vector data, Bentley MicroStation® city plans, digital elevation models (DEM), and photo realistic 3D building models generated using SOCET SET, four different visual simulation databases were created using TerraTools: The Complete Synthetic Environment Toolkit. Each database depicts how the same urban environment can be portrayed using different combinations of source GIS data.

For a demonstration of how SOCET SET and TerraTools can leverage your production of 3D urban databases visit us at the BAE Systems Booth 315/414, 2001 ASPRS Annual Conference, April 23-27, 2001, America's Center / Adams Mark Hotel, St. Louis, MO.

About TerraSim

TerraSim is a high-technology company that provides software solutions and services for advanced visual simulation database construction using cartographic data. TerraTools®, their primary product, is available for both Windows NT/2000/XP and SGI IRIX workstations. TerraTools is used in the automated construction of dense urban environments for regional planning as well as simulation databases for military exercises covering hundreds of one degree geocells. TerraSim also provides database construction services and advanced technology development for both civilian and military customers.
