TerraSim to Launch TerraTools™ V1.0 at SIGGRAPH '98

May 01, 1998

Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim will officially introduce its automated database construction system, TerraTools, at SIGGRAPH '98 in Orlando, Florida, July 20-24. This first public demonstration of the production version of TerraTools V1.0 will feature:

  • An advanced user interface, based upon a data flowgraph representation to make operator/system interactions more intuitive and easy to understand.
  • Native import of cartographic data in many government and civilian formats.
  • Rapid generation of terrain simulation databases using a variety of geospatial source data.
  • Export of databases into S1000, OpenFlight, and TerraSim TSG paged memory formats.

According to Dr. Jefferey Shufelt, the Head of Cartographic Feature Extraction for TerraSim, "We are excited to have the opportunity to demonstrate our superior technology to the SIGGRAPH community. One of the bottlenecks in the wider utilization of simulation databases for training and visualization has been the high cost and complexity of generating the simulation database. We feel that TerraTools will make 3D visualization of cartographic data much more attractive and affordable. This superior technology is already finding applications in a variety of market segments. The size and scope of the SIGGRAPH exhibition will allow us to get the TerraTools message out to a large number of early technology adopters."

TerraSim will be located at Booth 3504 in the Exhibit Hall (E1).
