September 10, 1998
Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim will participate in a two day conference on "Terrain Visualization and Terrain Simulation" organized by SMi, Limited for the European Defense Modeling and Simulation Community. The conference will take place in London, England on November 16-17, 1998. Speakers were invited from government, research, and industry, to address the latest terrain visualization technologies and applications.
David McKeown, President of TerraSim, will give a talk on "Automating the Compilation of Synthetic Natural Environments" on the afternoon of November 16th. The presentation will discuss the technology trends and data source requirements for creation of large scale synthetic environments directly from geospatial data. Issues in tailoring fidelity, feature integration, and geospecific model generation drawn from examples of exercise databases produced by TerraSim using its TerraTools™ software will highlight the presentation.
Examples will include littoral zone representation integrating disparate bathymetric and terrain data, the fully automatic compilation of a highly-detailed mission database using NIMA MSDS data, and an urban geospatial visualization including roads, buildings, bridges, parks, and other features generated directly from ARC/INFO® GIS data from a City Planning Department.
