Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim Inc. announces the release of TerraTools® Version 1.1. This second major release of TerraTools incorporates important new features and capabilities to further increase the productivity of database and visualization builders.
TerraTools V1.1 features a new Appearance Editor, which enables the user to easily specify or modify the transparency and surface appearance of all materials and textures used in the database. In conjunction with the new Appearance Editor, TerraTools V1.1 includes over 400 textures from CGSD Corp.'s RealTexture and Residential Exteriors libraries. These provide photo-realistic appearances for a wide variety of natural and man-made materials.
In addition to increased speed for many essential processing functions, TerraTools V1.1 now has improved output capabilities to MultiGen OpenFlight® and VRML formats. A new "batch mode" enables the TerraTools database generation engine to be driven from scripts in automated fashion, to perform repetitive tasks without operator intervention.
Additional tutorials have been added to the documentation, which, combined with the extensive user-documentation and on-line help system, make learning and using TerraTools V1.1 even easier.
Many of these continuing improvements to TerraTools are being driven by customer requirements. For instance, TerraTools is currently being used for the STOW World Wide Database Project, which is building a simulation database of the entire world. Batch mode enabled Lockheed Martin to execute build scripts automatically to generate database tiles from input cartographic data without further operator input.
