TerraSim Awarded DARPA Phase I SBIR

October 23, 1999

Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim has been awarded a DARPA Phase I SBIR entitled "Computer-Assisted Modeling of Urban Environments." This contract will result in the specification of a commercial software product for automated and semi-automated building model extraction from imagery of complex environments. These building models, along with features derived from existing GIS or cartographic data, will then be used to construct a detailed 3D visual simulation of the urban environment.

Dr. Jefferey Shufelt, principal investigator on the SBIR project, commented that "Our goal is to investigate the feasibility of a product where feature extraction can be coupled with advanced visualization techniques without leaving the overall workstation environment."
