TerraSim, Inc. at IMAGE 2003 Conference

July 07, 2003

Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim Inc. will once again participate in the annual IMAGE Society conference held in Scottsdale, Arizona, from July 14-July 18. TerraSim will be presenting a course on "Modeling Urban Environments" for the fourth consecutive year, as well as demonstrating the advanced capabilities of TerraTools® 2.0, the latest and most comprehensive version of TerraTools, at the IMAGE 2003 technology exhibit.

On Wednesday, July 16th, Bill Starmer and Joe Giuliani will present a tutorial in "Modeling Urban Environments." This four-hour course provides an introduction to urban modeling applications and provides examples of urban environment generation for database developers for MOUT training sites, as well as commercial and urban planners and database group managers.

Material presented includes an overview of the applications of urban databases, GIS and cartographic source data considerations, and a review of terrain skin construction. Model types and formats, model placement techniques, and automatic model generation will be discussed in detail, with several case study visualizations highlighted to aid in the presentation. Case studies include the use of USGS source data for an overview of Santa Barbara, CA, a database of the Schenley Park area of Pittsburgh, PA from ESRI GIS source, and a database constructed of the Penn State main campus from AutoCAD facility data. Each database was constructed using advanced automated urban modeling capabilities found in TerraTools, covering a range of applications including geographic familiarization, video surveillance, training for "first responders," and 3D GIS.

At Booth 18 in the IMAGE Society Exhibit Hall, TerraSim will demonstrate the capabilities of TerraTools 2.0. New features include: simplified project creation through the OmniWizard™, full coordinate system support, process flow graph simplification tools through macro nodes, improved building modeling tools, increased automation for import feature data, enhanced geometry and terrain data import, native CTDB export, still frame export for movie generation, TSGFly viewer enhancements and integration with BAE Systems' SOCET SET® photogrammetric workstation.
