TerraSim's TerraTools® product has advanced features for the automatic generation of visual geometry from a variety of geospatial source data. This Image of the Month highlights the latest database generation tools now available in TerraTools 3.5 to support fully automated generation of urban clutter, content, and appearance. Using parametric generation scripts and processing nodes, users can augment basic geospatial geometry with a variety of culturally relevant details.
The before and after urban scenes shown above demonstrate how street level objects and appearances can greatly improve the sterile geometry that is typically generated from urban vector data. TerraTools megamodels are used to position and place collections of street level models with respect to curbs, sidewalks, and building footprints. By leveraging geometric relationships maintained by TerraTools during urban database generation, a wide range of cultural features can be generated, breaking up the typical urban monotony without resorting to time-consuming manual modeling or model placement cleanup required by simple scatter techniques.
Since the location of all placed objects and models can be exported in the local database coordinate system, TerraTools Urban Details supports visual correlation during the export of constructive simulation systems such as OneSAF, JCATS, or JSAF. All required placement attribution, orientation, and scaling is preserved throughout the Urban Details process. Customer specific and regionally appropriate models are supported in TerraTools Urban Details generation using user-defined model libraries.
