Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim, Inc. has been awarded a contract entitled "Automatic Compilation of 3D Road Features using LIDAR and Multi-Spectral Source Data", under the U.S. Army SBIR program. The program seeks to further develop and commercialize technology to allow for the rapid generation of 3D road networks from a variety of current and emerging sensor systems, including the U.S. Army Buckeye collection system.
This Phase II contract will extend Roadmap from TerraSim®, a commercial, off-the-shelf source data preparation tool for semi-automated road network extraction, to import and use LIDAR data to generate 3D road networks with attribution. RoadMAP performs local-area processing to extrapolate complete road features from a road starting point. RoadMAP uses co-registered airborne LIDAR data to provide a direct determination of road height, pitch, and slope, and co-registered multi-spectral source (MSS) data to estimate surface material properties.
"We are pleased to have been selected for this very competitive Phase II award," commented Wilson Harvey, Principal Investigator. "The addition of LIDAR and multi-spectral source data to the current RoadMAP processing chain will result in significant accuracy improvements, as well as provide a 3D road network geospatial product."
TerraSim will also develop learning process modules and integrate them into RoadMAP to improve the level of automation within the interactive road extraction process. This work is monitored by the U.S. Army ERDC Topographic Engineering Center, Fort Belvoir, VA.

TerraSim is a US owned high-technology company that provides software solutions and services for advanced visual simulation and database construction using a variety of geospatial source data. TerraTools®, their primary product, is available for both Windows 2000, XP, and Vista.
TerraTools is used in the automated construction of dense urban environments for operations planning and situation assessment as well as to produce exercise databases covering hundreds of one degree geocells. TerraSim also provides database construction services and advanced technology development for both civilian and military customers.
TerraSim's TerraTours® product supports highly interactive geospatial query using 3D visualizations linked to a variety of collateral source data. Using GISLink™ technology, TerraTours users can automatically georeference and display information sources such as still photography, video streams, CAD design data, maps, and any web-enabled document.Copyright © 2017 TerraSim, Inc.
