Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of a new content generation exporter for the Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2) commercial gaming system, produced by Bohemia Interactive, Australia (BIA). Starting with standard vector cultural data, digital elevation models, and detailed phototextures, TerraSim’s TerraTools® provides an automated and well-defined flow graph process that creates high-fidelity geospecific environments for VBS2 users. This extension to the TerraTools product line supports detailed correlation with a variety of constructive simulation systems, including OneSAF Terrain Format (OTF) databases, JointSAF (CTDB), JCATS, and MAK VR-Forces (GDB).
In addition, TerraTools Urban Details™ processing generates and converts roof clutter, free-standing walls, buildings with interiors, and power lines with wires into the equivalent VBS2 runtime format employing user-defined appearances and clutter. Both simple buildings and those with interiors, windows, and doors can be automatically created.
Models that are specifically constructed for VBS2 in any of the BIA toolsets can also be placed in the TerraTools generated VBS2 environments, giving them a full range of runtime effects, including dynamic damage states. Models created in 3DStudioMax can be converted using the TerraSim’s 3DStudioMax plug-in.
The new TerraTools VBS2 exporter was developed in response to TerraSim customer demand. The emergence of serious game technology for training and mission rehearsal has increased interest in high-fidelity urban environments that are correlated in visual and constructive simulation. Below, a range of views of the TerraSim Sample Desert Database in VBS2 runtime illustrates each of these important urban content components.
TerraTools’s VBS2 exporter will be fully supported with training and TerraSim technical notes during the first quarter 2009. From December 1-4, 2008, TerraSim will give a preview of its VBS2 generation capabilities in Booth 1025 at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation & Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando, Florida.
