TerraSim, Inc. Presents at SPIE Defense, Security & Sensing Conference

March 25, 2008

Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim, Inc. will present a paper entitled "Generation of Large Scale Urban Environments to Support Advanced Sensor Simulation" at the SPIE Defense, Security & Sensing Conference, held in Orlando, FL April 13 - 17, 2009. This conference brings together organizations that develop and implement sensing technologies as they apply to industry and defense.

TerraSim representatives will present the database generation process and formatter for the Irma sensor simulation system, which is developed and maintained by Air Force Research Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. The process supports compex targets while automating creation of geospecific urban environments with unique building structures, urban road networks, vegetation and drainage, and 3D models for telephone poles and power lines.

The figure below shows the application of dynamic models moving in the Irma and visual simulation. In this case we created three dynamic paths for small trucks moving in the sample desert village database. During the real-time playback of this scenario, the observer is moving as well as the three trucks.

The following figure shows an Irma tank model moving in a simulation model of the Fort Benning, GA MOUT site. Note the use of polygonal tree models as well as the setting of sun and shadows in the Irma runtime environment. Shadows are cast at the bases of buildings, trees, as well as the tank model.

TerraSim's paper will be presented at Conference 7348, "Modeling and Simulation for Military Operations IV", Session 1: Modeling for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR)I on Wednesday, April 15 from 1:30-2:50 PM.

About TerraSim

TerraSim is a US owned high-technology company that provides software solutions and services for advanced visual simulation and database construction using a variety of geospatial source data. TerraTools®, their primary product, is available for both Windows XP, and Vista.

TerraTools is used in the automated construction of dense urban environments for operations planning and situation assessment as well as to produce exercise databases covering hundreds of one degree geocells. TerraSim also provides database construction services and advanced technology development for both civilian and military customers.

TerraSim's TerraTours® product supports highly interactive geospatial query using 3D visualizations linked to a variety of collateral source data. Using GISLink™ technology, TerraTours users can automatically georeference and display information sources such as still photography, video streams, CAD design data, maps, and any web-enabled document.
