TerraSim® Releases TerraTools® 5.9

Pittsburgh, PA – TerraSim announces the release of TerraTools 5.9, the latest version of its industry-leading virtual terrain generation software. TerraTools 5.9 adds support for VBS4 20.1, VBS Blue IG 20.2 and 20.3, and VBS3 20.1. This release also updates point cloud data import in TerraTools to the latest versions of the LAS and LAZ file formats and includes a new LAS and LAZ export capability.

TerraTools 5.9 is available to all customers under active maintenance and support contracts. Current users can download the software installer on our support site.

  • Ability to copy and paste nodes between multiple instances of TerraTools
  • New Export LAS node for exporting LIDAR point cloud data in the LAS or LAZ formats
  • Updated support for the Import LAS node for LAS and LAZ files up to and including version 1.4.

  • New road attributes for controlling the smoothing of roads, if roads level the DEM, and if roads should be visually rendered in the terrain or are only used by VBS4 Control AI
  • New vegetation attributes that can be used to remove bushes, grass, and trees
  • New attribute for stamping models into the terrain albedo layer, allowing for the placement of custom roads or airfield markings
  • New attribute for allowing building footprint data to use the procedural building extrusion process in VBS4
  • New attribute for controlling whether TerraTools-generated models appear in the Model Library in VBS Geo or the Editor Objects List in the VBS4 Editor
  • Numerous other bug fixes and improvements

VBS Export Plug-in

  • Support for VBS3 20.1
  • New attribute for controlling whether TerraTools-generated models appear in the Editor Objects List in the VBS3 Editor
  • Improved error checking in the Export VBS node for when a Control AI network cannot be created due to non-standard bridge data
